The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) traces its origin from DCAS (Directorate of Civil aviation Security), a cell within the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), created in January 1978, on the recommendations of the Pande Committee, which was formed as an aftermath to the hijacking of an Indian Aircraft on September 10, 1976.
